ALEXANDER
My fatigued body
My child-like tender smile
The skull under my skin
Aren't these my true face?
The one I am gonna wear when finally confusion ends
I don't have any city built in my name
Alexander!
Where did they bury you?
You have followed me across deserts
Through storms
And into the heart of empires
Now, before the threshold of the greatest glory
My friends, I have heard the rumors
About despair and fear and isolation
I have too tasted their bitter juice
I invite you to celebrate and feast and rejoice
In the coldest of hours
In the midst of the night
I have sensed traitors plotting
And seen friend turn into to foe
Do you think I don't miss home?
And the warmth of family
Or a good night rest?
But in the face of challenge I respond
All you free men!
All you children of God!
You group of friends!
Is it fun you are looking for?
All you keen individuals!
All you curious fellows!
You wild bunch!
Is it numbness you rather have?
Death makes fouls of us all
And slowly strip us of all spoils
First, its gold and fame and glory thats withdrawn
And after flesh and later bone
Cities erected with glorious pavements
That held humanity's knowledge
Those too will fade
And new men will take our place where we roamed
Even love, the greatest that life offers
With the perish of lovers
And close friends and children bore
She too shall sorrowfully be erased
In front of the greatest horror
That is the permanence of the nothing that follows
Do not despair
But make your time here worth your while
About cities built and temples devoted
Do not concern
About empires conquered and battles won
Do not obsess
Yet is easy to shyly withdrawn if all seem meaningless
But something is not beautiful because it lasts
With a warm heart and with gratitude
Fill your cups with life's wine and get eagerly intoxicated
With honesty
And with love
And with inquisitiveness
The great mystery, explore and help create
My itching heart
My restless soul
The torment of my unsatisfaction
Aren't these my true voice?
The one I am gonna speak when finally confusion ends
I don't have any gospel written in my name
Alexander!
Alexander?
